The hemp plant is packed full of amazing ingredients that have potential to promote health and healing, especially its oil. While all plants in the cannabis genus produce hemp oil, is usually extracted from industrial hemp, which is used to produce strains of marijuana high in CBD, rope, and textiles. The kind of hemp oil you can buy at a store will have no psychoactive properties since it has no THC, but it’s packed full of amazing, versatile benefits, from your health to even fueling your car!
1. Moisturizer and shampoo
Hemp oil can be applied to the skin after showering or bathing to lock in moisture and keep the skin soft and moisturized long after application. In increases blood circulation throughout the skin as well as provides it with nourishment. This nourishment is provided by hempseed oil’s high content of omega-3 fatty acids, giving it a similar chemical composition as your skin’s lipids. These same ingredients help prevent hair dryness and breakage, as well as stimulate hair growth.
2. Alternative to petroleum for manufacturing plastics
Hemp is one of the strongest materials in the entire world. Plastics made with the plant’s oils and fibers are nearly five times stiffer and two times as strong as your standard polypropylene plastics, which are full of BPAs – a known carcinogenic! Polypropylene is used in general storage containers, disposable products such as water bottles, and even our own food containers. Hemp has zero dangerous properties, does not harm the environment whatsoever, and is much better than the plastics we currently have.
Hemp oil can be used for cooking many different foods. While it is unsuitable for high heat, it can be added into smoothies, stir fry, and salad dressings. It has a unique nutty taste that complements natural flavors, such as those in vegetarian or vegan cuisine.
Hemp oil is composed of 80% polyunsaturated fat – aka “good” fats, while the remainder is composed of “bad” fats. This is good because many Americans are deficient in plant fats due to out high intake of animal fats. It is also very high in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are essential for the body to properly function and can improve overall cognition and well-being.
5. Wood finish
Hemp oil can be used on wood as a drying oil, and has similar properties to tung and linseed oils. It provides a smooth, hard, and shiny finish to all kinds of wood, and also makes the wood grains look appealing. The finish helps to protect the wood while improving its appearance. It can be used as a wood impregnation and varnish and can also act as a pigment binder in many oil paints.
Already many cars can be powered by alternative fuels made with vegetable oils and animal fats. Such eco-friendly fuels can be made with hemp oil too! In fact, Henry Ford even created a car powered by hemp oil. The car was actually made out of hemp fibers and was built specifically to run on hemp gasoline. Unfortunately, this information has been supressed – Hemp was even outlawed in 1937 to prevent its impact on the oil industry!
